Here's a quick post about a great new thrift shop open in the Southside of Glasgow...
The Glad Cafe in Glasgow's Shawlands describes itself as "a social enterprise with the legal structure of Community Interest Company. As a social enterprise we have a social purpose to eventually plough profits, (once loans have been repaid), into affordable music lessons for local people through the work of the Glad Foundation."
It's a venue, exhibition space, and a great place to meet for food, a drink in the evening or coffee and cake. The Foundation also produces it's own six mothly read, the Glad Rag As a local resident I was really excited when Glad Rags opened up next door to the cafe as in the past have always travelled to the West End of the city or the city centre to have a rummage for some vintage finds.
Last Wednesday the shop had it's offical launch party and I went along with a few friends to check it out.
There wasa huge turnout at the event and we could just about see the fashion film by Mr Webster, there was also a great exhibition of phtographs by Emma Lindsay, music provided by DJ Dema, and beer provided by West Brewery and work displayed by Create 48 Design; who had asked people via twitter for #gladtags, fashion worthy quotes to be displated on the night. One I had submitted made the cut and I saw it whilst perusing in the shop next door! But more of that later.
Inside the shop it was sooo busy with vintage hungry thrifters I was unable to take many photos of the clothes on offer, but it was great to see so many people getting excited about what Glad Rags Thrift are doing. Maybe one day when it's quieter I can get in and take some pics for the blog but until then check out the facebook page of Glad Rags for up to date stock pics and news HERE
I did manage to see the Ralph Lauren quote I had submitted as part of #gladtags though! Here it is in all it's glory...
It was a fun night and I'm so pleased a thrift store of this kind has opened up South of the river.
Great post. I can't wait to visit and have a rummage. It's about time we had a bit of vintage over on the Southside. xx
