Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara

Here's a quick review of Rimmel's new-ish addition to their Scandaleyes collection...

When  it comes to mascara I have to admit I am not completely loyal to one brand and I don't have a go-to mascara that's fail safe for me. I have tried Rimmel mascaras before and find them to be pretty good value for money (as with Maybelline) but I have chopped and changed the ones I buy quite a lot.

The retro Glam mascara promises to give lashes a clump-free fanned out 60's false lash look. I have to say, the formula is pretty nice, and the fibre brush (not plastic, which I don't like as I find those brushes tend to pick up way too much product) certainly helps to coat each lash and separate them pretty well.

The curved brush is meant to help coat even the smallest lashes at the edges of your eye, but one bug bear I had with this was that I could not seem to avoid getting mascara smudged on my eyelid due to the fatter part of the brush touching it.  Normally, this does not happen to me with other mascaras so it was pretty annoying the first few times when I had to keep clearing the mess it made! After a few goes, the application became easier and the formula fulfilled its role of giving my lashes a wide eyed, fake lash look.

But... another negative was that I found if I applied a couple of coats it did tend to be very dry and flake at the end of the day and I would find myself picking pits out from my eyes... not comfortable. For £6.99, this mascara is good value in the sense of the result it gives, but the annoyance of the messy application with the brush and the flakiness of the formula on me personally, would not make me hurry to re-purchase it. I actually prefer the original Scandaleyes mascara in the bright orange tube over this one.

These are just my personal views and would love to hear what you guys think of this mascara if you have had a chance to try it out?

  1. The application and flakiness would definitely put me off this mascara :)
